Inspired by a true story, this new LGBT comedy-drama from across the pond is set in the summer town of Blackpool, circa 1953, long before rainbow flags waved. But gay lovers Eddie and Tommy are inspired to crack open the closet door and risk it all, after getting mixed up with an eccentric group of characters at a seaside guest house, including a transvestite who's mustering the courage to take a walk as a woman in public. Billed as a "slice of camp British comedy with a heart-breaking punch," "Once a Year on Blackpool Sands" comes to the Loft at the Davenport Theatre in New York.
