  • Metropolitan Museum of Art 1000 5th Avenue New York, NY, 10028 United States (map)

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED

Sat 6/25 (Pride Weekend), Celebrate Gay S_X at the Met, Greek and Roman Style

Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 5th Ave (at 82nd Street).

What would you see if you looked carefully at the Greek and Roman art in the Metropolitan?  A lot of S_X, that's what, from self pleasing Satyrs to gods chasing their boyfriends.  The Greeks and the Romans had VERY different erotic customs from the modern West, and both cultures portrayed s_x and desire - straight and gay - quite openly in art.  It can, however, all be pretty baffling or a modern viewer.  Enter Professor Andrew Lear, the foremost authority on erotic Greek art, who has already given us his fabulous "Gay Secrets of the Metropolitan Museum" tour several times.  On this two hour tour, Professor Lear will teach us to read the erotic side of the Metropolitan Museum's Greek and Roman collection.  A whole different erotic culture will open before your eyes. At the end of the tour, we will head to one of the bars at the Met.

*NOTE: "Full Price" and "Senior" price include cost of admission to the museum as well as the tour.  The $25 cost for Met members and students is for the tour only (please bring your member ID or student ID to gain entry to the museum). The tour is operated by an outside vendor and is not officially an offering of the Met Museum. Price of admission does not include beverages. No refunds or exchanges.
