MCCARTHY-
Next, we were off on a journey to McCarthy. This town
served as the "Entertainment Capitol" for the nearby
Kennicott Mines. The Men all lived in the Kennicott bunk
houses owned by the mining companies, butthey journeyed the
6 miles to McCarthy for the booze and whores (didnt say this
was g rated). Anyway, we spent two days in McCarthy.
This place is right out of Northern Exposure. There is
a hotel (on right), a saloon and restuarant (on left) and an
air-taxi service. Everyone goes to the bar at night cuz
there is nothing else to do. We met everyone! Also
- most people have no phone or internet. Electricity is
provided by personal generators. The cars can only get
to the town in the winter, when they can drive across the frozen
river. Pretty darn peaceful!
